I come from San Diego California the land of the endless summer and endless microbrew beer. Now that I live in Paris France it is inevitable that I am a bit disappointed in the beer selection.
However, last week I found a great one. My wife and I subscribe to a French version of a CSA. We order online and the farmers bring our orders to a local bookstore/bar. This time I saw that there was a local beer on the menu. I picked one called cerberus with a 3-headed Rottweiler. Yes, Â I picked it because it looked cool, not the best way to pick a beer but not the worst either.
The guys at the Brasserie de l’Etre table were super cool and really nice. They had glasses out and were giving me tastes of all their different beers. Edward spoke English which was great and he even gave me an extra bottle of their yet to be released Sphinx beer which didn’t even have a label! It was so fresh, so mysterious!
I tried the cerberus when I got home and it did not disappoint. It is a triple with a dark oaky flavor and a carbonated bite to it. Since their beer was delicious and their brewery only 10 minutes from my apartment I decided to drop by and check it out. Edward gave me a tour and told me how he had just started this brewery last year with his partner Loïc. Edward was working at a jazz bar and brewing in a nearby underground basement when they decided to take the leap and go big.
The photo of the large tank is what they are using now. The 2nd photo of the small pot is what they started out using just as a hobby when they were brewing in the basement. Now it sits in the back of the warehouse as a reminder of their humble beginnings. The space is a legit craft brew size and it is all business. Big tanks, glass beakers, bags full of hops. But right next door is an unaffiliated craft brew bar/shop called Ah! la Pompe à Biere which has every beer known to man. The two places together give each other street cred.
I like these guys alot, they make good beer and they do it all themselves. They are some of the first brewers of a very new craft beer scene that is set to explode in Paris.
The coolest beer they make is something called LoveCraft (the one with the Cthulu tentacles) which is always changing every batch, it is a collaboration with a different brewery every time. The last LoveCraft was a strong rye IPA and the next one will be a curry porter made with beer seller Biérocratie (Paris 13). Hopefully I can get my hands on the next batch of LoveCraft.
